VectorStar MS4640A Series Microwave Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs) : Overview : Operating System

Operating System
The VectorStar software runs on both Microsoft® Windows XP and Windows 7 (32‑bit). However, Windows 7 only supports VectorStar software version 1.7.7 and higher.
Maintaining Operating System Integrity
The Microsoft Windows operating system on the MS4640A Series VNA is configured for optimum performance when the instrument leaves the factory. To maintain the system’s operating integrity, follow proper Windows shutdown procedures and DO NOT modify the operating system configuration, the firewall settings, the system registry, the hard disk drive partitions, or the Anritsu user accounts.
Antivirus Protection
The MS4640A Series VNA is tested with most common antivirus software, but stability is not guaranteed with all antivirus software. Anritsu recommends connecting the instrument only to a secure network. The user assumes the responsibility to provide virus protection because this is not supplied with the instrument. Contact your network administrator for information about your network security and antivirus protection policies.
Windows Updates
Not all Microsoft updates are compatible with the MS4640A Series VNAs and, if installed, may affect the performance of the instrument.
Caution
Changing some of the default Windows settings may cause a loss of instrument control or undesired instrument behavior. Changing the Windows Regional and Language Options settings may cause unstable front panel operation. These settings must be maintained as English (United States) as is set at the factory by default.
As such, the ability of the VNA to automatically receive and install updates has been turned off. Operating system updates should only be installed from an Anritsu-certified source, typically in the form of an update contained in a USB Memory Device. Anritsu recommends not installing updates from Microsoft. Ensure that the Windows update feature of the operating system remains off. Consult Anritsu Customer service for procedures on how to safeguard the instrument from undesired conditions that could result from Windows updates.
