VNA Master™ User Guide MS20xxB : Quick Start Guide : Vector Network Analyzer : Turning On Markers

Turning On Markers
1. Press the Marker main menu key.
Marker 1 will automatically be activated and placed in its last stored location. If there is no previous stored location (such as after a preset), the marker will be placed in the center of the measurement grid.
2. Press the Marker submenu key to open the Select Marker list box, then select a marker by scrolling with the rotary knob or the arrow buttons, then press Enter. Unused markers are labeled OFF. The number on the Marker submenu key indicates the active marker.
3. Active markers default to live trace data. Alternatively, markers may be assigned to memory trace data (if memory trace data exists). Press the Marker on Trace submenu key to select which trace is associated with the marker, or select All traces to have markers on both live traces and memory traces.
4. Use the rotary knob, arrow buttons, or touch and drag to move the Marker. The frequency of the active Marker is shown in the upper‑left corner of the display screen.
5. Delta Markers are available and may be used on live trace data or memory trace data, or between live and memory trace data. For a selected marker, toggle the Marker Type submenu key to select Ref, Delta, or Off. Assign the Delta marker to a reference marker by using the Avail Ref Mkr submenu key.
Peak and Valley Search Markers
When making measurements, the Peak Search and Valley Search features can be used to quickly place a Marker on a maximum or minimum point of a trace.
1. With an active marker, press the Marker Search submenu key.
2. Press the Peak Search or the Valley Search submenu key to find the maximum or minimum value on the trace that is associated with the current marker. If the Marker is on All traces, this action finds the peak or valley of the trace that is currently active.

Find Marker Value
Hunting for specific values on a trace can be useful, such as – 3 dB points on a filter. The VNA Master allows you to do this quickly and easily. Each marker can be associated with a Find value.
1. With an active marker, press the Marker Search submenu key.
2. Press the Enter Marker submenu key to set the desired trace value for markers to find. When the value is entered, the active marker automatically finds the trace value closest to the entered value.
3. At any time, the Find Marker Value submenu key can be used to find the next point to the right of the current marker location whose value is closest to the Find value.
Setting Up Delta Markers
If the intent is to conduct a delta measurement, two markers are required: one to be the Reference marker and one to be the Delta marker.
Setup Example:
1. Press the Marker main menu key. This turns on Marker 1 (to be the Ref marker) and assigns it to the active trace.
2. To place the marker on a trace other than the active trace, press Marker on Trace, then scroll in the Select One list box to choose a trace, and press Enter. Otherwise, skip to the next step.
3. Turn on Marker 2 and toggle the Marker Type from Ref to Delta.
4. Assign Marker 2 to Marker 1 by pressing the Avail Ref Mkr submenu key to open the Select One list box. Scroll to choose trace 1 (TR1), in this example, and press Enter.
If there are markers assigned on other traces, those traces will also appear in the list box. You can assign the Delta marker on the same trace or a different trace from the Ref marker.
Note
The Select Marker list box includes the current location, readout style, and delta status (if they exist). Otherwise, it indicates Off.
