In the View and Capture Menu displays, the AM/FM Audio demodulation is performed to the entire signal across the frequency band that was captured. For example, a wide-band capture of 20 MHz could have dozens of radio signals. The View and Capture Menu audio demodulation is for captures of a single audio signal. For highest quality audio, perform a narrow-band capture of just the signal of interest and demodulate the audio on the View menu and Capture menu displays. View Menu Audio Demodulation window is shown in
Table: Audio Demodulation.
On the Playback Menu display, the AM/FM audio extraction scans for audio signals at designated peak positions. In a 20 MHz capture, extract dozens of signals from the same capture data. The process of separating and extracting signals and the sound quality is not as clear as if a single audio signal had been captured and demodulated. If you are interested in capturing many signals simultaneously and do not require highest playback fidelity, then perform the AM/FM extraction in the Playback Menu. Am/FM demodulation in Playback menu requires at least one peak in the peak table. The menus for these function are unavailable (grayed) if there is no peak defined.
