The Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments (SCPI) defines a set of standard programming commands for use by all SCPI compatible instruments. SCPI is intended to give the user a consistent environment for program development. It does so by defining controller messages, instrument responses, and message formats for all SCPI compatible instruments. The set of SCPI commands implemented by the ML2439A interfaces a comprehensive set of programming functions covering all the major functions of the ML2439A power meter.
Query Commands
Many ML2439A (native) GPIB commands have an equivalent query command that will return a current value or setting. Query commands and their returned strings are provided with each command where applicable. A complete listing of valid query commands and returned strings is provided in Table: SCPI Command Summary.
LAN Configuration
The ML2439A LAN interface is configured using the System > I/O Config > LAN menu. The instrument may be set to automatically accept its IP address and associated information from a DHCP server, or the configuration data may be entered manually.
The ML2439A communicates via HiSLIP (High-Speed LAN Instrument Protocol), which is a TCP/IP based format that provides GPIB operation to be emulated via the LAN. Once the LAN parameters have been configured, the controller can use the instrument’s IP address to assist the remote-control software in locating and connecting to the ML2439A. Typically, the host will use VISA to provide the interface layer between the instrument and the remote-control software.
GPIB Configuration
GPIB remote control is enabled with option ML2439A-GPIB.
The ML2439A-GPIB interface is ready for use. Assign a GPIB address using the System > I/O Config. The primary address can be set to any value from 1 to 30 inclusive. The value assigned must be unique to each GPIB device. Secondary address is not implemented.
