VNA Master™ User Guide MS20xxB : Bias Tee (Option 10)

Bias Tee (Option 10)

Overview
Overview
The use of this option is fully described in the Vector Network Analyzer Measurement Guide (refer to Supplemental Documentation). Some instrument‑specific information is provided in this introduction to Bias Tee.
Option 10 provides a bias tee that is installed inside the instrument. The bias arm is connected to a 12 VDC to 32 VDC power source that can be turned on as needed to place the voltage on the center conductor of the instrument VNA Port 2, or the Spectrum Analyzer RF In port when in spectrum analyzer mode.
The bias can be turned on when the instrument is in vector network analyzer mode when the Start Frequency is 2 MHz or greater. The bias can be turned on when the instrument is in spectrum analyzer mode with any Start Frequency set. When bias is turned on, the bias voltage and current are displayed in the Instrument Settings Summary area at the top‑left corner of the sweep window. The 12 VDC to 32 VDC power supply is designed to continuously deliver a maximum of 6 watts.
The bias tee menu can be accessed in several ways depending on how the instrument is configured:
From the Sweep menu when in standard VNA Mode:
Key Sequence: Sweep > Configure Ports > Bias Tee Setup
From the System Options menu when VNA Field menus are selected:
Key Sequence: Shift, System (8) > Application Options > Bias Tee Setup
From the System Options menu when in Spectrum Analyzer mode:
Key Sequence: Shift, System (8) > Application Options > Bias Tee
Figure: Internal Bias shows how the MS20xxB can provide an internal voltage between 12 volts and 32 volts that is applied to the center conductor of Port 2 or the spectrum analyzer RF In port. That voltage would be available at the port along with the RF signals.
